When you are driving around Portland and can see the OHSU tram, you’ll know exactly where the Corbett-Lair Hill neighborhood is. Also referred to as Johns Landing, this neighborhood in Southwest Portland (on the west bank of the river and just a bit south out of downtown) has a lot to offer! The newer skyscraper condo towers and the OHSU office development right off the waterfront is a big draw.
Quick commute to downtown for walkers, bikers or drivers with beautiful views of the mountain are for those with east facing windows; downtown Portland for those with north facing windows. South and west don’t fare badly either–more river or the beautiful hills. Continuing up the river, older 2 & 3 level condos have beautiful views of the river and are set back just far enough with beautiful green-space in front. The waterfront pathway continues all the way up to the Sellwood Bridge via Willamette Park.
One of the older resdiential areas in town, there are many 192o’s cottages and bungalows & similar era apartment buildings that abutt up to the side of I-5. And while continuing up Corbett south, you’ll begin to see some incredible ultra new/modern/fab homes built right in as well as some beautiful older homes that have been well updated. I find home searching in this part of town to be very enjoyable. Commercial business has done well here with Zupan’s, various ethnic restaurants, breakfast spots and of course shopping at The Water Tower.
